Officer Recruitment

The ECU Police Department seeks police officer candidates who will provide all police services to the University, including community policing, traffic and criminal law enforcement, emergency response, investigations, and special event staffing. The Department serves as the third-largest university in North Carolina with over 28,000 students, staff, and faculty. The University is located within easy driving distance of the Crystal Coast and the Outer Banks, as well as Richmond, VA, and Washington, DC.

The ECU Police Department is responsible for maintaining a safe and pleasant environment in which to live and learn. Officers with the department are charged with the responsibility of protecting life and property, preventing and detecting crime on campus, and providing essential services to the university community. Concerned with the protection of life and property, the officers enforce North Carolina state laws, Pitt County ordinances, and the rules, regulations, and policies of East Carolina University.

The ECU Police Department is a full-service police organization that operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, providing around-the-clock protection and services to the university community.


Salary

All UNC System Law Enforcement Officers are classified as Exempt Professional Staff (EPS) appointments. This EPS status features job classifications and associated career progression steps that provide for professional career advancement opportunities based on years of work experience and achievement of NC law enforcement certificates, in addition to formal promotional opportunities filled through a competitive process. Salary ranges for employees covered under this regulation shall be published and periodically updated by the UNC System Office. These ranges may be revised at any time at the direction of the president or their designee.
